This year we are bringing you Data Talent in a new format. There will be half day online events during the Our Future and Our People themed weeks in May and September, when we will be focusing on those themes.
A Data Talent event will also take place on Tuesday 23rd November. We hope to bring you a hybrid (part virtual, part live) event, but this will depend on the restrictions in place at the time. More information about this event will be coming later in the year.
Data Talent will provide an opportunity for recruiting companies to engage with Scotland’s emerging data talent through a half day event. The event will include speakers demonstrating their innovative data science projects and providing an insight into careers with them, skills workshops, panel discussions and the opportunity for students and those looking to progress their career in data science and AI to talk to prospective employers and find out more about them.
For the first time Data Talent will be brought to you via an online platform which will provide the opportunity to attend talks and workshops, and meet with employers on a one-to-one basis in the virtual exhibitor hall.
The ‘Our Future’of DataFest21 will tackle cutting-edge technologies and innovative uses of AI and our data. We’re delighted to have Priya Lakhani (entrepreneur and AI innovator) and Matthew Higgs (Lecturer in Business Analytics at the University of Bristol) delivering keynote talks and sitting on a panel to discuss the skills of the future. MBN Solutions will also be hosting a CV surgery where you can get expert advice on how to make your CV perfect for landing a career in data.
Once you register for your Data Talent ticket (click here to register tickets) you will be able to pick a workshop to attend. The workshops running on the 19th of May during Data Talent will be:
Marta Portugal – Director of Data Science
Have you found the job posting of your dreams but are unsure how to stand out? Or fell victim to impostor syndrome and looking for some guidance? Look no further. In this 45-minute workshop, we will go through a typical job posting for a data scientist position to understand how you can adapt your experience and skills to show that you are the perfect fit for the job. As both an experienced Data Scientist and a keen recruiter, Marta will talk through her experience and expectations when applying and recruiting for a job.
Paul Matthews – Office of The Chief Statistician and Strategic Analysis
An insight into what Government statisticians do, including the process of producing official statistics and the skills involved.
Bethany Rodgers-Rintoul – Project Manager
A 45-minute workshop that aims to help people transitioning into the data science and analytics industries (or getting started for the first time) by understanding employer expectations, how to prepare for the transition, and how to improve and showcase data literacy.
Manira Ahmed – Head of Local Intelligence Public Health Scotland
Public Health Scotland is the national agency for improving and protecting health and wellbeing and is the lead agency supporting Scotland’s response to COVID-19. Come and join us at our workshop and learn more about the work behind COVID-19 and how we are working to tackle Scotland public health challenges.
Thomas Watt – Practice Manager
In this workshop, Thomas Watt will tell the story of how Royal London only recently began its journey to deliver on an ambition to become data led by introducing two new drivers for change; an Innovation Lab and a Cloud Data Platform. These drivers for change have not only delivered immediate benefit for Royal London through the co-creation of solutions from data prototypes, but also enabled them to securely and effectively extract value from their data at scale across the organisation. This workshop will provide delegates with an understanding of the way that Royal London plan to invest in data going forward, including how they plan to grow and develop their teams and skillsets to deliver on this ambition to build a Data Platform and reap the benefits in the market.
In addition to attending a workshop there will be the opportunity to have your CV reviewed by an expert through a CV surgery run by our placement programme partner MBN solutions. Places are limited so if you would like to take up this valuable opportunity please register using the link that will be sent following sign-up to Data Talent. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
